(/media/Portada-PH.png)Periodismo Humano, one of the pivotal online medias on Human Rights in Spanish language, has published a special monograph on ‘After Peace’ project, in particular on the cases of Rwanda and Guatemala. Combining texts and ten short documentaries, this monograph explores the state of peace in these two countries. The documentary series After peace is a project of the Journalist Association Fora de Quadre and Contrast that tries to explain and confront the different ways of making peace undertaken by countries that have suffered a violent conflict in the last quarter of the 20th century. The countries analyzed are Bosnia, Lebanon, Rwanda, Guatemala, South Africa, Argentina and Cambodia. We have already completed the documentaries about the first four countries. Using the material filmed in Guatemala and Rwanda, we have produced five short documentaries about each of the two countries. Combining these with texts, we can go deeper into the topics explored by the documentaries. Too often peace is believed to settle in immediately after the signing of the end-of-war agreements, but on the contrary that is only the starting point of the complex and difficult process of building peace, memory, truth, justice and reconciliation. As a premise, peace should be intended not only as absence of war, but as a “positive peace” where there is neither direct nor structural and cultural violence. Often, when direct violence ends, the causes that have provoked the conflict still remain and the different sides go on using narratives that feed hatred, revenge and lack of reconciliation. Periodismo Humano is an online media created and directed by journalist and photographer Javier Bauluz. It aims to “recover the social role of journalism and the concept of public service to the citizens and not at the service of particular political and economic interests.” These are values that are fully in tune with the project and the organizations behind After Peace project. .
